So friendly...
And your sea of mountains, WOW!
Workmates and I hit the road to Asheville this week for the Seeds of Hope, Seeds of Resilience: How Biodiversity and Agroecology Address Hunger and Climate Change seed exchange and lecture.
In honor of Dr. Vandana Shiva visiting Asheville, Bountiful Cities, Sow True Seed, Slow Food Asheville, Organic Growers School, Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, Appalachian Institute for Mountain Studies, Southern Seed Legacy, UNCA, and the ABFPC Resilience Cluster hosted a regional seed exchange symposium. This was so exciting for my co-worker David, who's been managing the learning garden where I work and who's become an enthusiastic seed collector in the process!
Although I knew about these seed exchange events, I'd never been to one and had no idea what to expect. But Dave's above and beyond preparedness combined with my other co-worker Christine's attention to artful detail and ability to keep everyone in check, and my ability to miraculously improvise a 5-minute elevator pitch about our work at the institute, resulted in pure chill event magic. Lots of people complimented our display table! I loved getting to chat about the work we with people of all ages clustered around making nerdy seed conversation with our Farmer Dave. :)
We also got to explore a little, hanging around a few hip pockets of West Asheville and downtown, hit a couple of vintage shops, and hiked the gorgeous Craggy Garden Trail at Blue Ridge Parkway.
It felt good to go on an adventure to support such a nourishing scene of sustainability activists.
